Western Rockhopper Penguin. I've found him on Oceanário de Lisboa near the Magellanic Penguin. It is not by chance that he was baptized with such a name. The places chosen to nest tend to make them real experts on climbing and diving from the rocky falls, with an hard access to the water but also to they're youngsters. Nothing macho here! It is the female that goes for the hunt to feed the little one's, while the male has to ensure the wellbeing and protection of the newborn penguin, on the first days\weeks of life. After a couple of weeks, when the child is strong enough to stand by himself, it can be found on Penguin Kindergarten. By now, it seems hard not to make the parallel with our own kind (mankind). With a swift step, because in the wild there is no time to loose, two and a half months later, the young penguin already follows his parents, playing and learning to hunt, in the water. It is life recreating life in the gesture and in the glow.

In the factory of life ethereal dough is shaped in the image and likeness of the creature will inhabit. Gentle, friendly, playful, beautiful and showy, this creature, lets us guess the intentions of the creator. In the factory of life, no elected or preferred prey or predators there. After much kneading, gentle but determined gestures in this primordial plasma, it is sometimes divided, split or nestled in tiny flakes of a thickness not always measurable. Like fireflies in a jar in the dark night, waiting time (as often forgotten) in the materialization of its shape and color preference. Factory Life, third street in the land of dreams, there are no miracles nor premonitions, no disappointments or disasters. It is there that is returned to the brightness all the creatures of light adorn themselves. I'll tell you more when I get back there...

Ocean Animal Photography  - Moon Fish 

Returning to the ocean and strange creatures that populate it, it's almost mandatory to post a photo of of this huge fish of the seas. It seems that evolution forgot this fellow. He is bizarre!... Having a large round body (which resembles a full moon) and small fish fins, swims in an unusual way, more like jumping forward then swimming. The size and shape of its mouth isn't less strange, because it looks like its also out of proportion with the rest of its body. All together, nature produced here one of the more intriguing and fascinating creatures (animals) on planet earth, although, they look like belonging to another world. This is what drives me to photograph this animal every time I have the change. Its a delight to get this images that makes us appreciate even more the wonder of the seas. Hope you enjoy it.

Photography and the fascination with wild life. One of my favorite Primates: Monkey of Japan

 

Primates

The family comes first and this needs no introduction.
With a strong presence in Africa, spread a little on all continents and broken borders. Associated with the worship of the gods in the East and considered a plague in other places, they are small, are large, they are beautiful and bizarre, are fierce and are friendly. They are like all of us humans … Among the species with the greatest influence on my photography, will be highlighted: the monkey of Japan, the mountain gorilla, chimpanzee, orangutan, and tamarin/s. The human expressions and gestures make them, almost, the perfect target for portrait photography, also of wild life.
This sharing is not innocent. This family is declining. We all lose our heritage and global consciousness is diminished with the demise of so noble and beautiful diversity. Preserving this universe is also to spread its image, is also to spread this fascination. It’s not by chance that we share 98-99% of our DNA with these brothers …

Wild Animal Photo Under The Sea

In this post I'll keep the focus in these marvelous sea creatures. This character is Flávio. With a broad smile and elegant flight, like dancing the waltz, no one would tell that he's a part of the sharks family. To me he is more then just a distant cousin. He is the one that did not conform to the rules, changed is life, changed is look... To be able to see them closest (although through the glass) its an amazing experience. For now, I can only imagine the feeling of swimming along with these beautiful and graceful creatures. If there is someone reading this post who has already done that, I would like to hear from you.

Dedicated to all Ocean/sea lovers. Its easy to love this beautiful creatures. Although they have a very strange look, they´re still seen as mythical creatures by the most of us (including me). After passing this photo to my laptop I was amazed by the result and decided to share this view of the seas.

wildlife produced here a series of very beautiful (although odd) pictures of wild animal interaction

Trying no to spoil fun of seeing the rest of the shots and read the story has it happened, Alfonso Paz would like to invite to read, first hand, the story, and see the pictures, that got published on England's newspapers and online edition. Its one of those rare wild animal stories|photos which do not happen twice in a lifetime. One of the smallest creatures on earth decided to pay a visit to one of the largest animal around. Giraffe and meerkat got together in one of the most amazing animal duets in nature. There was time to gentle kisses, eye to eye contact exchange, dance, play, bite and fight. It was fun to see, joyful to photograph and the animals themselves ended quietly and peacefully, with no harm done.

Take a moment in time, visit the "meerkat and giraffe kiss" news, relax and enjoy... Life outside will still be there waiting for you.

These are the last pictures of the Valentin's Series. Dedicated to all nature lovers and love itself. The photos are enough to illustrate the major force behind natures visible universe.

I'm just adding two small notes on this post that makes the "reading" a true delight:

-On the first photo, one of the parrots, that I like to think that corresponds to the male, looks very apprehensive when the other starts to approach. Its something like:- what's happening? What the L??? She's going to kiss me!... It reminded me a famous cartoon series: "Pepé Le Pew"
- On the last one, pure magic happens: The lady closes her eyes while kissing is love. What a joyful moment...

This major force, unique, surrounds us, pass us trough, guide us, unites us and divides us, as a thin web of silk wires. With intricate pattern and color, sometimes soft and sometimes loud, it's present in the most intimate of each one and makes us what we actually are.

New Publication on SCRIBD - Snakes, Lizards and cousins. A series of photos and pictures of one of my favorite subjects.

For these marvelous creatures, fascination can only be compared with their less appealing aspect and behavior. (...) don't really represent a threat, the single idea of touching death itself, is maybe appealing to the animal (primate) inside each one of us...
To photograph them is to get closest to the animal, but more then that, is to get back in time and understand they're journey and value they're existence. Among the thousands of species in our world, my favorites are: komodo dragon, all sorts of snakes and serpents, frogs and toads, crocodiles and alligators, turtles, chameleons and friends. (...)

What do you see when you look?
 ... and the images that chose us ...

To cease the constant background noise, small, closed and oblique from mind and thoughts, may well be the ultimate human experience. In some cultures it is. The nirvana, enlightenment, or any other sort of state of Being only happens when the I (self) no longer exist.


"When reality breaks through you and empties your guts, part of what we thought we were ceases so violently that we stop being people"


This photo is part of a collection of images and pictures which the starting point is the animal itself. Its more like reverse photography (if it exists) than a standard approach to light capturing. Confused? Don't be! I'm still trying to figure it out myself... It's part of the journey. Wanna help?

Photography and Wildlife Fascination


Start at the beginning may seem a redundancy or superfluous, but it is not, in fact. For the first time in these whereabouts, I try to share images and ideas of the animal world and my feelings towards nature, towards a world that materialized before my eyes every moment, with every photo.
My quest is to seek for the holy grail, and my path and vehicle is photography. Your comments, critiques and collaboration will be my fuel.
